About me

Hello. My name is Jack Hollingsworth and I am a 10th grade student at Charlotte latin School in Charlotte, North Carolina. For the majority of my life, I have possessed a strong interest in STEM, particularly programming and engineering. My other hobbies include competing on Latin’s Speech and Debate Team, playing tennis, and trading stock options. Engineering has piqued my interest for most of my life, and as I continue to age I’ve grown more aware of the fact that my career will likely be spent in a discipline of STEM. Therefore, in order to cultivate my abilities and challenge myself in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, I enrolled in Fab Academy. I’m incredibly excited to begin the program and learn more about the various equipment in the Fab Lab and eventually design and create my first professional, large-scale project. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to participate in the program and embark on the rigorous, but immensely rewarding journey of participating in Fab Academy.

My background

I was birthed in Charlotte, NC and have lived in the same 10 mile radius for the past 16 years. I have possessed a strong interest in a variety of STEM activities for the majority of my life, and am looking forward to further developing my abilities in the 2021 Fab program. Throughout my engineering career, I've participated in the SeaPerch and eCyberMission competitions and have created a variety of interesting projects in the courses that I have taken over the past four years.

Programming

Programming is another one of my hobbies. I started leanring Scratch six years ago and have since become proficient in HTML/CSS, NodeJS, Python, and C#. Right now I am learning Java in my AP Computer Science course but have yet to find a useful application of it in my everyday life. I've used HTML and CSS to create several intermediate websites for various purposes over the past four years. I use NodeJS to create skills, which are similar to Chrome Extensions, for Amazon's Echo devices. Finally, I have used Python to do webscraping and perform various automation tasks in browsers. While engineering is something that I look to pursue later on in life, programming has been a fun hobby that I have thorogoughly enjoyed throughout most of my life. I hope to use my programming abilities to catalyze the epicness of the projects that I create throughout Fab.
