In this week we are required to work in a group to: - design a machine that includes mechanism, actuation and automation - build the mechanical parts and operate it manually - document our work.
It was one of the most funniest and wonderful weeks at the same time it was the hardest week and the week that required a lot of works and efforts. And sinces I’m surronding with the amazing team the we came up with a good result. we were all satisfied from the foam cutting CNC machine that we made.
My Task
I was responsible to design the Y-axis part of the machine with my colleague Maha on Fusion360 then Maha combined all the parts together.
The second task I did is designing the Motors holder NEMA 34 with my colleague Fatma. We used the caliper tool at the beginning to measure the dimensions of the motor and then we made a design in fusion then we tested using laser cutter machine. all our trails were failed.
The dimensions was not accurate and it didn’t fit the motors so we had to search for another way to find the accurate dimensions for the motor. so we searched in the internet for the NEMA 34 dimensions. and based on this dimensions we made our design and again we test it using laser cutter machine. then we made sure that the design is fit with the motor. after that we added an aluminum profile piece to our fusion file to know exactly were the screws should be. all the steps are shown in the below video:
we used the 3D printer to print the motor holder. I followed the same steps I followed during 3D printing week. I will list down the sitting of this design:
Layer height: 0.20 mm
Infill density: 20 %
Wall thickness: 1 mm
The third task I was assigned to do is preparing and arranging the components to the team members. For this task. I put the wires on one place for my colleagues to make it easier for them to find the wires. also I bring different types of screws from the workshop to do not waste time on searching. because the workshop was in a mess. it was very difficult to search for a component. and we don’t have a lot of time to finish this assignment.
Future Improvement
it would be better if we add a cover for the machine.
also I think if we add something which will remove the extra foam from the machine automatically rather than do it manually
