Answering the assigment questions:
What will it do?
Key fuction of my projet will be supporting of developement of core muscules of my 1 year old son. The sensory board that I am aiming to do will encurage him to stand-up more and improve his motoric skills by giving him some entertaiment and few minutes of rest to his father :P
Who's done what beforehand?
Many companies globaly. Sensory board is a common toy/tool used for kids. The thing is that not many of them are interactive and most of then are very expensive.
What will you design?
For the project I will design the look of the main body of the board. The layout of accessories and tools on the board. The electronics to drive the buttons used. I will also code/design the software that will make the board interactive.
What materials and components will be used?
The main body of the board will be made out of plywood, most of accessories will be plastic or 3D printed. The project will include some LED's, switches, manipulators and buzzers to entertaint the kid, as well as other items that might look interesting for 1 years old.
Where will come from?
* Hardware store.
How much will they cost?
All components should cost no more than 200-300 PLN which is equal around 50-75 USD.
What parts and systems will be made?
Main body of the project will me CNC milled. Some of the accessories will be 3D printed. The PCB to controll all electronics will be designed and made by PCPB making process used before.
What processes will be used?
3D printing, CNC milling and PCB making.
What questions need to be answered?
What is the best layout of tools on the board? How to make the tool safe? What are the most entertaining and interesting accessories for my son?
How will it be evaluated?
The board will have a counter that will count the frequency of buttons pressed, how many times they were pressed or when. This data will allow me to decide if the button gain an interest of my son.
- Draft of idea
- CAD Design of main body and accesories
- CAD Design of PCB's that fits into the housing
- CNC milling of the main body in plywood, 3D Printing of accesories
- CNC milling of PBC's
- Soldering of PBC's
- Finsinigh/sanding of the wooden parts
- Checking if all the parts come togehter
- Writing code
- Checking if code works properly after loading into the board
- Connecting all the parts together
