# computer controlled cutting

Group assignment

The goal of this group assignment is to find the best kerf, I cut two parts male and female as shown in the picture below, the male part has 10mm width and the female part has width begin from 10 mm then decrease by step 0.1 mm, so what I found that the best one that makes the connection tight fit is 9.5mm, so if I decide to make this type of connection then I have make it less than the male connector width by 0.5mm.

vinyl cutting

vinyl cutting machine is CNC machine with the blade moving as trace generated as we see below, I upload the electronics ic logo then generate tool path as shown with a red line around the logo it is outline cutting pass.

After the tracing is done, we have to choose the cut sitting(speed, force) as the picture below:

then I applied the vinyl to the sheet, it is a sticky sheet,

After put it on the sticky sheet then we have to insert it until touch the rubber roller, after that press load on the touch screen as shown in the picture below.

3. Laser cutting

the most interesting part that i enjoyed with it, it is an amazing feeling when you see the shapes while machine cut it, and the capability of this machine especially with cut and engrave functions, it is easy to use just put color the line which you want to cut then put the sitting for this color like power and speed so these parameters you can define it depending on the type of material and the thickness of it.

indivisual task

I spent too much time thinking of the design, finally, I chose to cut a tray.

Base

I started my design with the base because all parts will be fixed on it, I used fillet function to make curve edges, also I make sure that it will be a tight fit with other parts so I made the slot width 3.4 and its work properly.

Front side

in this part I made a male connector with extra depth to act as a leg for the tray and make sure it is fixed enough, also I did lock from sides to connect it to the right side to get closed shape at the end using the pin.

Right side

here it the hardest part, first I did the handle by making enough space for hands, then I decided to do lines pattern to make the cardboard flexible enough to bending so I did the first block then make a duplicate for it until reaching the end of the side, also I made lock on the sides to mate the with the front side.

laser cutiting setting

I upload all parts to the software as the picture below one for base and tow for front and right, then I set the color priority for it, the holes, slots and bending lines before cutting the outlines. i chose the cardboard material because it is lightweight.
