PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES

Final project proposal

Braille printer

My first idea is a braille printer that will convert input text ( I don’t know yet the input method (computer , via wifi , mobile app...) into braille and write it on a A4-sized paper as shown in the following figure , so people with visual impairment can feel it and will be able to access printed text.

WHY a braille printer ?

Braille is, to a person who experiences vision loss, what printed words are to persons who are sighted. The Braille alphabet is the building block for language skills; it is a means for teaching spelling to children who have vision loss, as well as the most direct means of contact through written thoughts of others.
One of the reasons that made me choose to make a brailler printer is its high selling price, such a machine can be made in fablab with a low cost, designed in an elegant way that allows people to take it with them with no difficulty. Also I do a Market Research shearing with people my idea and they like it and encourge me to do it , among the questions that I asked

The initial sketch.

1*: The paper feed mechanism, which must feed the paper, corresponding to the standard Braille size.
2*: The mechanism for moving the print head to specific points on a horizontal axis.
3*: The end effector, which punches holes in paper at precise points to print Braille. I decided to use one that punches six holes at the same time for faster writing.
