6. 3D Scanning and printing

This week I tested 3D scanning using a Kinect like device, the primesense sensor & 3D printed using SLA FormLabs Machine.

This was the opportunity to use Skannect, DAVID Structured light solution and meshmixer.

Scanning

Pour le scanne 3D, j’ai choisi de scanner une statue en pierre de 2m de longue par 1,70m de haut.

I choosed to scan a BIG (more than 2x1.7 meters) statue made of white stone which represents a birth scene, located near the city’s Hospital.

I used a primesense sensor and skannect software to get the point clouds. I did multiple scans, first global then part by part.

Fusion

I used David Software to merge the different scans to one filet.

Modeling

The resulting scan has artefacts and deformations, I had to fix the model to make it clean and printable.

Then i exported to stl.

3D printing

FormLabs

Considering the complexity of the part and detail level, I decided to print using the formlabs SLA machine. I choosed layer thickness of 0.1 mm.

Post processing

The form Labs prints need to finish polymerisation using an UV chamber.

Painting

Then I decided to apply Acrylic paint on surface to be closer to the original model.
