Final Project¶
RE-LEASH¶
I started drawing on a paper some ideas and finaly i had an prototype, i also had an name The project would be called Let the dog out (L.T.D.O) or Eltdoo. But after 2 days of thinking about my idea and sharing it with my wife, we came up with a better name The project will be called The RE-LEASH
Defining the problems:
- The dogs are on a chain and can not get loose when i am not home.
- They know at 17:00 PM they get loose and get their diner, so around that time they get anxcious.
- The alarm off the house goes off, and i get an text message, but the dogs are chained.
Defining the solutions:
- The dogs can get off the chain automatically, when i am not at home.
- At a certain programmed time or when it gets dark the dogs get loose.
- When the house alarm goes off, i can remotely unchain the dogs.
This project will be an unique but simple prototype, solving a problem of a lots of dog owners.
It is an automated releasing device on dogchains.
My wife came up with the name RE-LEASH.
Note: The use of this prototype is not for you to become lazy and/or coming late everyday to release your dog(s)

Research¶
``` After an thoruough research on the internet i could not find something simulair, there where automatic gatedoors and feeders but no chain releasers. So i tought i will follow through with my idea and make a start of my idea.
Because the RE-LEASH is an unique invention
Potential stakeholders: Here in Suriname lots of people have dogs, some are in a dog house, but most of them are on a chain. At day time the dogs are chained and in the afternoon when the owners get home the dogs get loose. These owners are my target group because what happens is that owners sometimes get late because of work or traffic But first off all it is a solution for MY problem
````
I started to gather potential materials, so i get a clear view off what is in my head and what is nescessary.
When i had this i had a clear view of how it would be made, the challenge would be the locking mechanism
Now i started with a list off materials i had to order:

While waiting on the order, i could develop my 3D designing skills week 6 3D Scanning and printing was perfect for this and i started allready prototyping my case.
Here are the final designs of the RE-LEASH 1.0 box
3D Models¶
- This is the top half of the RE-LEASH box
- And this is the bottom half of the RE-LEASH box
- For the RE-LEASH 2.0 i will make another design with a locking mechanism.
The Challenge¶
As i said in the beginning the locking mechanism is the challenging part I tried to make my own hook during week 10 Molding and casting but because of the material not being as tough that i wanted, i choose to hack an original one. I also did not wanted to use the solenoid that i bought from E-bay so i started testing with custom hacked chainhooks
These are the tested selfmade solenoids
After week 11 input devices and week 12 output devices i started designing my board week 5 electronic productions learned me the skills and i milled the board with my own bought brandless 3018 CNC Pro
After soldering i had to test the board, i used the Arduino as a powersource and the Solenoid from Ebay in the back of one of the hooks
After seeing a fully functioning board and that was succesfully programmed, i tested the system with his own powersupply,in week 9 embedded programming i started planning and learning the code for my board
One of the finalsteps was fitting everything into the box, i still used a 18650 3.7 volt battery and that would never fit. So for the final step i had to use a Lipo battery 042020 3.7 volt (4mmx20mmx20mm)
The final test was the test on the dog, this you will see in the RE-LEASH video.

Downloads¶
In week 19 Invention, intellectual property and income i learned that you can protect your idea with copyright so nobody can just take your idea and make money with it.
