Digital Hearing Aid

Project Introduction

An old man shared a story once to me. For around 2 weeks or so he was looking at people without a clue about what they were talking about. He being nearly deaf, always had this problem, eventually relating to his psyche, " are they talking about me?"

A realisation is that for most of those having hearing impairedness, it is not just about listening to something, it is at core about keeping healthy, both mentaly and physially.

Hearing impairedness is not merely a function of age.

Spirit

As already known to all of us, Hearing Aid (addressed as HA also in this document) is not a new concept. Right from Human Aids to Machined Aids, we have been watching this vertical, explore. There were days when Doordarshan, the Governemt owned TV Channel in India, that transmitted periodic news hours, for Hearing Impaired persons, across the country (... it is no more there, so sincerely..). On a parallel note - there are emotional reasons, why people of my age would like to talk about Great days out of Doordarshan!

Whatever it is, the device as such is available all over the market. However, point is not merely about HA being available. How many can reach to these devices and/or how many can afford?

Freedom to the user to adjust the machine and moreover in the spirit of opensource - freedom to modify, redevelop, redistribute the design and sale while open sourced, and Cost are at the focus.
