Weekly Assignments

W1_Principles and Practices

Assignment: Build a personal site describing you and your final project, plan and sketch a potential semester project.

W2_Computer-Aided Design

Assignment: Model (draw, render, animate, simulate, ...) a possible final project, and post it on your class page.

W3_Computer-Controlled Cutting

Assignment: Design, make, and document a press-fit construction kit.

W4_Electronics Production

Assignment: Make the FabISP in-circuit programmer.

W5_3D Scanning and Printing

Assignment: Design and 3D print an object (small, few cm) that could not be made subtractively. 3D scan an object (and optionally print it).

W6_Electronics Design

Assignment: Redraw the echo hello-world board, add (at least) a button and LED (with current-limiting resistor) check the design rules, and make it. Extra credit: simulate its operation.

W7_Embedded Programming

Assignment: Read a microcontroller data sheet program your board to do something, with as many different programming languages and programming environments as possible.

W8_Computer-Controlled Machining

Assignment: Make something big.

W9_Molding and Casting

Assignment: Design a 3D mold, machine it, and cast parts from it.

W10_Input Devices

Assignment: Measure something: add a sensor to a microcontroller board that you've designed and read it.

W11_Output Devices

Assignment: Add an output device to a microcontroller board you've designed and program it to do something

W12_Composites

Assignment: Design and make a 3D mold (~ft2), and produce a fiber composite part in it

W13_Networking and Communications

Assignment: Design and build a wired &/or wireless network connecting at least two processors.

W14_Mechanical Design, Machine Design

Group Assignment:

Make a machine, including the end effector, build the passive parts and operate it manually document the group project and your individual contribution.

W15_Interface and Application Programming

Assignment: Write an application that interfaces with an input &/or output device.

W16_Applications and Implications

Assignment: Plan and document a final project that integrates the range of units covered.

W17_Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income

Assignment: Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.

W18_Project Development

Assignment: Complete your final project, tracking your progress.

W19_Project Presentation

Assignment: Document a final project that integrates the range of units covered, answering:

Final Slide

Assignment: Make a final slide for your final project that integrates the range of units covered.
