Reflection
Machine week was intense & fun as we decided to make a machine that will not allow you to sit on it. Something funny & thoughtful using the stuff from the lab. after a couple of days of ideationa nd brainstorming, we decided to build a system for a chair that will not allow you to sit on it.
We explored fabricating a seat that moves circularly or up & down. At the end we decided to use a flipping chair that can be closed & opened to store easily. We knew we needed motors & arms to push the seat up. We had some challenges, one motor + arm did not have enough torque to lift the seat enough. The arm was just hitting the bottom, so we added another arm. When the torque was enough, the process would make the whole chair fall over which disconnected our breadboard setup constantly.
I helped assemble the electronics & test the code by testing the turning values for rotation of the motor & mirror-tuning for the second motor since the second one was flipped. It was measured counter clockwise to the first. I also edited the final video with iMovie & made the final slide by giving the project info to ChatGPT to generate a visual of the project. There were multiple iterations & some spot changes on the slide with procreate later.
We enjoyed working on this project a lot & I felt that the different skill sets of the group helped move to different phases of the project. Everyone had many good laughs while working on it, while filming & while presenting. I tried to maintain the funny vibe in the video as well by using the Pink Panther theme song. I need to look up the copyrights of using that but it was funny.
It was nice to work with the MDEF (Masters in Design for Emergent Futures) students & combine our ideas. I also completed this master last year & enjoyed combining philosophical concepts of access to objects & interactions with mechanical design, electronics, fabrication & group work.
I also printed a electronics casing that was too big & heavy so we made another one. Trial & error & trial & error & trial & error & trial & error & trial.............. x10000000
