Week 5. Group / 3D Printing¶
This is group assignment page for West harima student :
Student¶
group assignment¶
- test the design rules for your 3D printer(s)
machine¶
1.Volon0¶
1.0 What is voron0
Voron0 is a highly accurate and compact open source 3D printer that uses the CoreXY system for fast and precise printing. Its frameless design makes it highly customizable and popular among DIY enthusiasts.
This was created by Hiroe Takeda(my aunt and instructor)!
1.1 specification
- Compact and portable
- 120x120x120 build volume
- CoreXY
- Low mass direct drive extruder
- Enclosed chamber
- 24v DC bed
- Klipper firmware
- Filament runout sensor

2.Vzbot awd 330¶
2.0 What is Vzbot awd 330
The VzBot AWD 330 is a high-speed, high-precision CoreXY 3D printer. It features stable operation with all-wheel drive (AWD). It is highly customizable and suitable for DIY.
This was created by Takeda Kazunari (my uncle and founder of west-harima)!
2.1 specification
- Compact and portable
- 330x330x330 build volume
- CoreXY with AWD (All Wheel Drive)
- Low mass direct drive extruder
- Enclosed chamber
- High-power heated bed
- Klipper firmware
- Filament runout sensor
- Auto bed leveling
- 500°C+ capable hotend
- High-speed printing (1000mm/s+)
Maximum speed: 2500 mm/s acceleration 20000 mm/s^2, but for safety reasons, the maximum speed is operated at 1000 mm/s acceleration 20000 mm/s^2.
2.2 open source code
3.material¶
Filament used in this project ELEGOO PLA filament 1.75mm
4.OrcaSlicer install¶
4.0 Download
5.OrcaSlicer calibration¶
- What is calibration for?
3D printer calibration is necessary to improve accuracy and quality. The main objectives are as follows
- Ensure dimensional accuracy: Ensure prints are sized as designed
- Leveling the bed: Ensure good first layer retention
- Adjusting the extruder: Ensure proper filament extrusion
- Vibration and resonance suppression: Prevents blurring during high-speed printing
- Temperature control: To print at the optimum temperature for each material
Calibration using Orca Slicer
- Temperature Calibration
- Flow Rate Calibration (Pass 1)
- Pressure Advance Calibration
Important
- Once the calibration process is complete, do not forget to create a new project to exit calibration mode.
- When creating a new project, a window will appear saying, “There are unsaved changes in the current project. Do you want to save before continuing?” To prevent the settings from being accidentally overwritten, select “No” on the save screen.
Temperature Calibration¶
This process prints patterns in different temperature zones to see which ones print cleanly.
- Select the printer in the upper left corner of the screen.
- Select Fialament
- Select “Calibration” > “Temperature”.
- Since ELEGO’s recommended temperature is between 190°C and 220°C, set “Start temp” to 260°C and “End temp” to 230°C, then click the OK button.
- Slice
- Export and print files
- Comparison
They are all beautiful, but this time we will select 220 degrees, the most beautiful of them all.
- Click on “Edit Preset” in Orca Slicer.
Calibration of flow rate (pass1)¶
If this is not appropriate, the molding may be fattened or, conversely, thinned.
- Click “Calibration” -> “Flow Rate” -> “Pass1
- Slicing. When the preview appears, select “Flow Rate” under “Color Scheme”.
- Exporting and printing files
- Comparison
It is difficult to choose one over the other, but I will choose -10 this time.
Pressure Advance Calibration¶
In a 3D printer, when the ex- and ruder accelerate or decelerate, the difference in pressure can change the thickness of the line. We will make adjustments to avoid such a situation.
- Select “Calibration” > “Pressure advance” on the screen.
- PA Calibration appears. Select “PA Line” and click OK.
- The platform will display “PA Test”, click the slice button
- Exporting and printing files
- Comparison
In this case, we choose 0.38, which has the most uniformly printed lines.

design rules¶
This time I tested overhang and bridge The results are as follows
7.overhang¶
- The top surface was clean and fine up to 8.
- The bottom surface is good up to 6.
8. bridging¶
- All top surfaces are good.
- The bottom is clean up to 14.
