Samrudhi Rovalekar
Hi! I am Samrudhi Rovalekar, a student at Somaiya School of Design (Riidl), Mumbai, India.
Thriving, learning, and growing, I strive to explore the best version of myself. As a student designer, I am
eager to foster new skills and dive deep into the ever-evolving design field. My journey is shaped by
everyday creative experiences that are curious, purposeful, and innovative. Here, I envision building a
strong, holistic design consciousness that balances functionality with creativity.
Beyond design, I have a deep passion for content writing, which fuels my expression, and I am also a
professional athlete, where discipline and resilience define my core values. Additionally, I enjoy exploring
emerging technologies in design, allowing me to push boundaries and create meaningful experiences.
I believe that design is not just used for problem solving but also expressive.
I aim to tranform my vision to design to delight my users.
Previous Projects

Furniture
This modular, multifunctional desk was my first design exploration, making it especially dear to me. It
balances workspace and storage within a compact, efficient structure. The asymmetrical open shelves create
dynamic volumes, offering ample space for books, stationery, and personal items.
The foldable tabletop enhances adaptability, allowing the desk to expand or collapse based on the user's
needs, optimizing space utilization. A dark wooden finish lends a sophisticated yet minimal aesthetic,
making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Blending functionality with flexibility, this design caters to modern, space-conscious users. Thoughtfully
placed compartments and an ergonomic height ensure an efficient work environment, seamlessly integrating
organization and accessibility.

Branding
I, along with my friend
Shreya Nuka
, created the branding project for the Somaiya Space Research
Project (SSRP), crafting a cohesive visual identity that embodies innovation, precision, and ambition. The
design system features a sleek black-and-white aesthetic, reflecting the sophistication and high-tech
nature of space research while ensuring a bold, professional appeal.
The branding elements include stationery, digital assets, and merchandise, all unified by a strong
typographic presence and the SSRP emblem. Thoughtful detailing, such as business cards, notebooks, and USB
drives, reinforces the identity while maintaining functional value.
This project encapsulates the spirit of exploration and progress, aligning with SSRP’s mission of pushing
boundaries in space technology. We aimed a futuristic vision, strengthening the project's impact and
outreach

Lamp Design
I designed a lamp inspired by Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni, reimagining Mahabharata
from Draupadi’s perspective. Beyond illumination, it fosters relaxation and preserves Indian mythology
within a modernist form.
Exploring 50+ iterations, I developed a complex yet minimalist structure using PLA plastic and 3D
printing. After five failed prints, a month of experimentation led to success. LED strips, a toggle
switch, and a mechanized wooden base conceal circuits.
Standing 30 cm tall, the lamp embodies Draupadi’s strength: a mahogany-engraved base, two opposing
cylinders joined by a helix, and a sphere resembling a bindi. The helix represents pride and adversity,
while warm yellow light enhances meditation.

Branding for Art Gallery
I developed the brand identity for Cubist Enigma, an art gallery dedicated to celebrating Cubism’s bold
geometry and abstract storytelling. The identity embodies the movement’s essence—deconstructing forms,
reinterpreting perspectives, and evoking curiosity.
The logo integrates layered geometric shapes, reflecting Cubism’s fragmented yet cohesive compositions.
The angular typography complements the structured yet dynamic aesthetic, reinforcing a sense of enigma. A
modern yet earthy color palette bridges the past and present, ensuring versatility across print and
digital media.
From exhibition catalogs to digital assets, the branding maintains a cohesive visual language, immersing
visitors in the Cubist philosophy. Cubist Enigma invites audiences to engage with art through a
multifaceted lens, mirroring the movement’s spirit of endless reinterpretation.

Bio Material
My project focused on creating sustainable products using biomaterials, inspired by nature. I explored
sawdust and rice husk as raw materials, experimenting with binders like cornstarch and xanthan gum to
develop eco-friendly alternatives.
This research aimed to demonstrate how waste materials can be repurposed into functional and durable
products, minimizing environmental impact. The project involved testing material properties such as
strength, texture, and biodegradability.
Through this exploration, I sought to contribute to sustainable design by uncovering new possibilities for
using nature-inspired materials in everyday applications. This work reflects my commitment to innovative,
environmentally-conscious solutions. To Know more about the Project refer to
