About me

Hi! I’m Paula Rivero, a 22-year-old Biomedical Engineering student at Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla. I chose to study Biomedical Engineering because I am passionate about making a positive impact on the world and improving people's lives through innovative healthcare technology. Besides university, I really enjoy going out for coffee and having conversations. I love dancing and spending time surrounded by the people I love—my family and friends.

Previous work

As an engineering student, I have faced various challenges throughout my career, but without a doubt, I have learned to solve problems and have grown both personally and professionally. I have participated in several projects with social impact, such as creating prostheses for pediatric patients—of course, under the supervision of a professor. I have also conducted training sessions on the use of various medical devices in public hospitals in Puebla. Additionally, I went on an exchange program to study hospital engineering and gain knowledge about current regulations and medical device control in Mexico.

Transtibial prosthesis for a pediatric patient

The project I am most proud of was a transtibial prosthesis that I, along with a group of fellow students, created for a 12-year-old pediatric patient who was born with limb deficiencies due to a congenital condition. We were able to carry out this project after winning the Social Impact Contest at Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla, which awarded us approximately 20,000 Mexican pesos (around 1,000 USD) to develop a functional and personalized prosthesis for the patient. The innovation of the prosthesis lies in its adjustability, allowing it to be used until the patient turns 18 years old. This feature represents a significant financial relief for the family, as prostheses in Mexico tend to be expensive. Given that the patient was in a growth stage, it was crucial for us to find a way to provide support through innovation in the prosthetics field.
