Invention

The GameShine project is a creative endeavor that integrates modern touch detection technology into a classic gaming interface inspired by the iconic Nintendo GameBoy. By combining the nostalgic design of the GameBoy with contemporary touch-sensitive inputs using the XIAO ESP32S3, I aimed to create a unique and engaging gaming experience. The project involved extensive testing and innovation, particularly in integrating touch detection into the SNES controller, thereby blending old-school gaming aesthetics with new-age technology.

Intellectual Property

This project is built upon the foundations laid by previous technological advancements and iconic designs. The original idea of a handheld gaming device, such as the GameBoy, was created by Nintendo. My work on GameShine is heavily inspired by this classic device. Additionally, the concepts and libraries from Adafruit, particularly the Adafruit ILI9341 library, played a significant role in developing the graphical interface and touch detection functionalities. Given these influences, it is crucial to acknowledge that the core ideas and some of the technological underpinnings did not originate from me.

Licensing

In light of the contributions and inspirations from existing technologies and designs, the GameShine project is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial and the GNU General Public License v3.0.

These licenses were chosen for several reasons:

  1. Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial: This license allows others to share and adapt the work non-commercially, as long as they attribute it to the original creator. It ensures that the project remains open for educational and personal use while preventing commercial exploitation. This aligns with my intention to share my work with the community without pursuing monetary gain.
  2. GNU General Public License v3.0: This license is designed to guarantee users the freedom to share and change all versions of a program—to make sure it remains free software for all its users. It allows others to use, modify, and distribute the project, provided that any derivative work is also licensed under the GPL. This ensures that the project and its derivatives remain free and open-source.

Income

I have no intention of monetizing the GameShine project. This project was undertaken purely for personal satisfaction, learning, and the joy of creation. The licensing terms explicitly prevent commercial exploitation, reinforcing that this is a non-profit endeavor. The Creative Commons and GNU licenses ensure that the project remains accessible to others who might be interested in learning from or building upon my work without any financial barriers.

By licensing GameShine under these terms, I aim to contribute to the open-source community and encourage others to innovate and share their creations freely. The project serves as a testament to the collaborative spirit of the maker community, where ideas and technologies are shared and improved collectively.
