About
Hi, my name is Bernardo, though I usually go by Berna or Bernie. I'm currently studying industrial design in Puebla. My journey into design started by creating products for myself, eventually evolving into an ambition to design products for others and to establish my own business, aiming to build a community of like-minded users who are truly passionate about our products.
Apple has been a significant source of inspiration for me, rooted by admiration at the eloquence and precision of Steve Jobs displayed in his interviews and presentations. 'Creative Selection' by Ken Kocienda, which offers an insight into Apple's design process and team structures, also captivated me. The legendary integration of software and hardware at Apple, along with observations of both exceptional design and flawed execution, has honed my focus on the seamless integration of design and manufacturing. I am driven by the belief that effective design transcends aesthetic appeal, encompassing economic and technical feasibility for large-scale production.
Interests
While my interests are varied and might seem unrelated at first glance, I am continually discovering the underlying connections that bring them together into a coherent and holistic structure. I’ve always been obsessed with animals and nature. As a child, I was particularly drawn to small, self-contained ecosystems, attempting to create several with partial success.
I recall being inspired by the dioramas at the Boston Museum of Science and realizing they were the perfect tool to integrate into aquariums, gardens, and parks. This naturally led to my next passion: photography. Initially, my goal was to film animals, but I soon discovered that photography helped me understand perspective and angle of view, key elements in diorama design. Photography led me to learn about advertisement, necessary for promoting and selling my designs, which are, of course, focused on nature. I was initially unsure whether to study marine biology or industrial design, but I eventually chose design, mainly because I figured it would be easier to learn marine biology and ecology on my own.
Now, in my final semester, I'm eager to apply my knowledge to pond and waterfall design, both for recreational use and for zoos and museums. I recently completed a course on this topic in Chicago and found it immensely rewarding. My interests are quite diverse. Starting with the natural world, I am drawn to permaculture, regenerative agriculture, terrariums, and both salt and freshwater aquariums. My passion extends to more artistic and design-oriented disciplines, such as photography, dioramas, drawing, and designing ponds and waterfalls.
Additionally, I am also drawn to adventure and exploration, leading me to enjoy road trips, camping, traveling, and rock climbing. In the realm of science and personal development, I explore a variety of subjects, including dinosaurs, reptiles, amphibians, health, longevity, biohacking, and habit formation. Perhaps the most distantly related, yet equally important, are my interests in cooking and cinematography. All these, I believe, are interconnected in some way, and I tend to think in a very holistic way, always seeking to understand the underlying causes and related aspects of each topic .
