FINAL PROJECT PROPOSAL
LIGHTDOM
My final project idea is to develop a HELIODON, an artifact that is used to analyze the movement and incidence of the sun in architectural projects. The name it will have will be LIGHTDOM.
CONCEPT
LIGHTDOM is a technological artifact that simulates the trajectory of the solar path to analyze the solar incidence that architectural projects have anywhere in the world. The project is an instrument that is part of bioclimatics with the objective that architecture students at the Scientific University of the South can analyze and understand the importance of the solar path in architectural proposals.
WHY LIGHTDOM?
My inspiration comes from my time as a teacher at the Cientifica del Sur University. I have the opportunity to teach the bioclimatic course and I discovered a problem that existed with the students who found it very difficult to understand the topic of solar analysis in architecture. Current methodologies are not sufficient for understanding since it is very difficult to understand only with diagrams and texts. Therefore, my inspiration comes from teaching the course in a dynamic and creative way, specifically solar analysis in architecture. This is how LIGHTDOM was born, an artifact that is easy to build and that will not only support students, but also other teachers, universities and architecture studios that can build it and from there, analyze their architectural proposals taking into account movement and solar incidence.
WHAT WILL LIGHTDOM DO?
Understanding the solar path is fundamental in the training of an architect, since it significantly influences the design and comfort of buildings. From the beginning of a project, it is crucial to consider the orientation and climate of the location. The solar path, which refers to the movement of the sun throughout the day and its impact on the lighting and temperature of a building, is a key element in bioclimatic architecture. To help architects better understand and take advantage of this natural phenomenon, LIGHTDOM has been developed, a technological device that allows you to visualize and analyze the solar path of a project during the design stage. LIGHTDOM facilitates the understanding of the solar path and from this, we can propose design strategies that maximize natural light and minimize heat, thus designing more efficient, sustainable and comfortable buildings for users.
INTERACTIVE
Lightdom simulates the solar path that the sun has throughout the year and is made up of 3 elements: latitude, month and time. The device can distinguish the user's request and adapt to the requirement they need. We can analyze any month and time of day, as well as the latitude at which the project is located.
AUTOMATION
The artifact presents automation that makes it change according to the user's requirement. It presents movements in its arcs to achieve the exact location required and from there, turn on the artificial lighting that simulates the sun and analyze the solar incidence in architectural projects
