10. Mechanical Design and Machine Design

Choosing a project and divvying up the work

When my group, Jasson, Bella, Zach, and I, were thinking of what to do we came to the idea of a dinosaur style puzzle game where you have to press as many teeth as you can before the jaw shut. We then divvied up the workload and I was in charge of designing the inside of the dino's mouth. this included the "tongue", a piece with one open end to slide the circuit board and teeth into, and the teeth. I also milled out the circuit board after getting the base design.

Making the inner jaw

The first thing I worked on was the inner mouth design, I took a copy of the original dino head model

Then I added the top plate where the tongue and teeth will go and sketched out some perliminary designs for them.

I extruded the sketches, combining the tongue to the bottom jaw and moving the teeth over to the jaw to check that everything lines up and can be screwed together befor sending the files off the the rest of the group.

Milling the circuit board

Because I had more immediate access to the lab I was sent the Adobe Illistrator file to convert into an rml and mill.

I made sure to watch the board durring the milling process and although the ouline was very close to the traces it didn't cut through them. Then I got it all ready to be soldered up.
