My Final Project example

Planning and Making a Desk Injection Machine Prototype as the Final Project of the Fab Academy 2023

My final project for Fab Academy 2023, I plan to design and build a desk injection machine prototype. This machine will allow us to create recicled plastic parts with precision and accuracy, which is very important for our process.

Project Overview

The desk injection machine prototype will be an automated system that will inject plastic into a resin printed mold, creating a solid part. The machine will consist of a hopper, screw, heater bands, and a mold. The hopper will hold the shreded palstic, which will be fed into the screw. The screw will transport the plastic through the heater bands, melting the plastic. The molten plastic will then be injected into the mold, creating the desired part.

Design and Construction

To design and construct the injection machine, I will use Fusion 360. This will I hope in the process I learn to identify any design flaws and make necessary modifications. I will also use the 3D model to create a BoM, which will include all the necessary parts required to build the machine. Once I have finalized the design, I will begin constructing the machine. I will use a combination of 3D printing, CNC milling, and traditional machining techniques to create the various parts required for the machine.

Automation

The idea add a that I have is to add a temperature sensor that will start injection autimatically. It would be managed by a microprosesor,

Conclusion

I know designing and building a desk injection machine prototype is an ambitious project that will require a significant amount of planning, iteration and effort. But I am confident that the maker in me will achieve a functional prototype by the end of the program.
