About me
Hi I am Max Matus. I am a Zapotec indigenous scholar and consultant. In my professional career as consultant, I have worked for the public and private sector, developing qualitative research for the evaluation and innovation of products, services and public policy in México, U.S.A and LATAM. I am specialized in the use of ethnography, oral and life histories, participant-observation, and interviewing. Nowadays I am the head of the Cultural Studies PhD program at El Colegio de la Frontera Norte in Tijuana, Mexico.
The most interesting and challenging projects I have conducted are those which aim to develop products and services for transnational indigenous migrants. I had published some books and articles in the field of cultural anthropology and topics related to the intersection of technology and anthropology or what I and my colleges have baptized as Techno-Anthropology: a vibrant emergent field of knowledge focused on technology innovation, technology-driven change, technology use and ethics which contributes to the resolution of complex socio-technical problems taking off from a deep cultural and social understanding of technological design, use and appropriation in local context.
