17. Invention, Intellectual Property and Business Models¶
This week we learned on Intellecutal property: copyright, patents, trademarks as well as licences. During monday’s recitation we learned on some examples on how different business models operate.
Dissemination plan of the final project¶
My final project idea is an intelligent connected recycling cabinet. It would be very nice if the final project would be developed in to more advanced and extended version that could be useful in the designated context. I would hope that if this would happen, the original idea would be acknowleged, but I would not want to hold back others who would wish to develop the idea further.
For this reason I would choose the CC-BY-SA license:
“This license allows reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use. If you remix, adapt, or build upon the material, you must license the modified material under identical terms. CC BY-SA includes the following elements: BY Credit must be given to the creator SA Adaptations must be shared under the same terms”
I think that patents might be an obstacle for the rapid further development of the original idea, and therefore it is of interest to publish the current development and the details in the Fab Academy pages, so that they can be freely developed further, as long as the original idea is acknowledged.
First of all, I will try to finalize the proof of concept of the project within the current Fab Academy cycle. Then I would try to publish the idea in a suitable Journal. After this, I would try to introduce it to others, perhaps in the context of Fab City projects, with the hope that others would find the idea interesting. If there would be enough interested people, we could form a community for testing ideas and developing the concept further.
I would hope that the initial idea would find enough interest so that shops and official recycling centers would be interested to provide the servers for databases and decide application interfaces (APIs) for the recycling cabinets to connect. Then makers and companies could create custom appearances for the recycling cabinets, and adapt the communication to the APIs provided by shops and recycling center databases.
This would allow for creating customized looking recycling cabinets that would be connected to the API’s so that the connection would be standardized.
