Week Overview

This week is wildcard week, where we will fabricate something using a somewhat unconventional process that has not been covered before. I decided to do embroidery.

Assignment:

  • Design and produce something with a digital fabrication process (incorporating computer-aided design and manufacturing) not covered in another assignment, documenting the requirements that your assignment meets, and including everything necessary to reproduce it. Possibilities include (but are not limited to):
    • electrical discharge machining
      • 5-axis machining
      • waterjet cutting
      • flatbed cutting
      • plasma cutting
      • laser metal cutting
      • laser micromachining

I decided to create and embroider a design on the Brother SE-600 embroidery machine, which is brought in by fellow Fab Academy student Nidhie Dhiman. Along the way, I met a lot of errors, including with the machine itself. But I was able to learn from my mistakes and get the work done.
