Assignment

For this Assignment, I wanted to orient myself on my Individual Assignment, and Measure the power consupmtion of the stepper motor while its running. For this I needed to connect a Multimeter in Series with the VMotor lead of the stepper driver. In order to showcase this, I made a small diagram showing how everything is connected for this measuring setup!

With this setup, I am able to measure drawn amps from the motor driver/ stepper motor. From this Value I can then calculate the power consumption! But first I needed to measure the amps drawn during motor movement:

As you can see in the Video, the Motor and stepper driver are taking 0.08amps while nothing is moving. This spikes to 0.51amps durning motor movement with maximum microstepping enabled. Now onto calculating power consumption. So the general calculation is as follows:Amps * Volts = Watts. In my case with a 12V power Supply, that means the following:
