Mohit Ahuja's Fabacademy 2021

Useful Links and Tools

This page is a repository of all the useful tools I have discovered that might be relevant for others for their fabacademy in the future.

  • Vivaldi: This is a derivative of the open source Chromium browser but with some really cool additional bells and whistles. It has an inbuilt adblocker, tons of customisation options and is compatible with almost all of the common Chrome extensions. Imagine a Chrome with an inbuilt adblocker. You can get Vivaldi from here.
  • OneTab: This is a very useful chrome extension that helps you save your tabs in a quick way for later use. It is kind of like a customizable history of the browser. Download it from the Chrome webstore.
  • Asciinema: A tool to record terminal sessions. This is especially relevant to people doing fabacademy on a linux machine, but also somewhat to everyone doing fabacademy. It helps to capture a live video of a terminal session. You can get it from here.
  • Colorhunt: This is a website that has a bunch of different color palettes to choose from, and is helpful for defining the tone of your page. You can check it out here.
  • Adobe Spark: This is a tool that I use often to create graphics and posters. Very easy to use and packed with features. It is an online tool so no need to download anything. It also exports to different formats such as pdf, png etc, which are commonly used extensions for graphics exchange. Check it out here.
  • Boxmaker: A tool for quickly generating PDFs of lasercutable notch boxes. Just input the parameters of your material and the dimensions of your box, and you're good to go. Check it out here.
  • MakerCase: Another box making tool with an additional feature for making boxes with rounded edges. Check it out here.
  • Boxes.py: The holy grail of lasercutable cases. This website allows you to make boxes of mannny differnt types based on whether you want a lid or a kerf or a slider or handles etc. There is way too many options and it could take some time to figure out the parameters but it is totally worth the while. Check it out here.
  • Xoihazard's Vector Halftone Maker: This tool allows you to quickly design a halftone for laser etching. It exports in many vector formats and is very easy to play around with. Check it out here.
  • Shapediver: A website for hosting Rhino and Grasshopper files and embedding them into your browser. I am yet to successfully embed a file yet but it seems to have potential. Check it out here.
  • GIF Maker: A tool for making gifs and videos from a series of images. Very easy to use and simple. Check it out here.
  • Cloud Convert: Check it out here.
  • Free Convert: Check it out here.
