WEEK17 Applications and Implications
Individual Assignment
Propose a final project masterpiece that integrates the range of units covered,
answering:
What will it do?
Who's done what beforehand?
What will you design?
What materials and components will be used?
Where will come from?
How much will they cost?
What parts and systems will be made?
What processes will be used?
What questions need to be answered?
How will it be evaluated?
What will it do?
My final project is the automatic sake-pouring machine. It contains three weight sensors to detect the weight of remaining sake in the user’s cups, and the rotating and leaning arm with the sake bottle to pour sake into the cups.
It's named Dozo Dozo (Japanese phrase to encourage others to do something or have some food or drink).Dozo Dozo is a perfect buddy who pours the drinks in the right timing, so you can enjoy drinking without caring about drinkig manners too much.
Who's done what beforehand?
At the first stage, as I reseached in Fab Acadamy Archives, I found some people challenged to make cocktail mixers in the past.
I liked each project much, but I found out the structure of mixiking drinks and pouring drinks are different... so I kept researching.
"Cocktail Machine"(Group Porject by FabLab Bottrop)
"The Gang Makes a Drinking Machine"(Group Project by MIT Architecture Shop Section)
Then I was inspired by my favorite old machine, “Doc Brown's Dog Feeding Robot
by the Back to the Future (1985)"
I realized that the arm part is essential to make my machine human-like sake serving robot.
What will you design?
■ 2D Design
-Laser-cutted wodden box to set the arm
-Laser-cutted leaf-shaped top plates for the weight sensors
-Laser-cutted OLED stand.
■3D Design
-Joint (connecting the bamboo bottle and the servo motor)
■Electronics Design and Production(embedded microcontroller interfacing and programming)
-PCB for 3 OLEDs, 3 Load cell sensors, 2 Servo motors, 1 LED and a switch.
■System Integration and Packaging
-CNC Milled folding box to store all the materials.
■Other
-Hand-cutted sake bottle and cups made by real bamboo
What materials and components will be used?
-Basswood plywood 2mm, 4mm
-Cypress 2mm
-Bamboo
-PLA filament(White)
■Electronics
- 1 x Mobile Battery
- 1 x Switch
- 2 x Servo motors
- 3 x Load cell sensors HX-711
- 3 x OLED
- 1 x LED (white)
- 1 x ATtiny3216; 2 10kΩ resistors; 1 1uF capacitor; several pin headers.
Where will they come from?
-Woods :local suppliers
-Bamboo: donated from Fablab Kannai’s members(Thank you!)
-Electronic Items: Digikey
-Motors and sensors: Amazon
What parts and systems will be made?
-Electronics
-Structure
-Packaging
What processes will be used?
-2D design by Adove Illustrator 2021
-3D design by Fusion 360
-Electronic design by EAGLE.
-Programming by Arduino.
-Laser cutting
-3D printing
-CNC Milling
-Hand cutting
-Soldering
-Assembling
What questions need to be answered?
-Write the program to integrate each flow(loadcells, servos, LED, switch, and OLEDs)
-Adjust the position of the weight sensor. and starting point of the servo motors.
-Adjust the degree of the bamboo bottle.
-How to close the folding box.
-How to hide the wires.
How will it be evaluated?
-To detect the weights by the loadcell sensors.
-To rotate the arm by servo motor1.
-To lean the sake bottle and pour sake into the right position of the cup with the servo motor2.
-To turn the LED light on.
-To show the logo and the number of the pouring in the OLEDs.
-To integrate above as a series of flows.
How much will they cost?
