18. Invention, intellectual property and income¶
The goal of this week is to think about the possible dissemination plan for our final project. In addition we have to make a draft of our presentation slide and a video presentation of our project.
Assignment¶
Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project
Prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080) and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB) and put them in your root directory
My vision for the future¶
Coming to the FabAcademy with no real ambition to create an indispensable everyday object I never thought about the potentiality of launching a patent for my idea. However, being in another professional project that takes up a lot of my time I don’t want to patent my idea. Furthermore, a patent is extremely expensive and I don’t have the funds or the desire to take on the administrative, financial and legal steps to protect my idea. I am already busy enough as it is!
Also, being aware of and in direct contact with people who carry heavy loads every day and who therefore damage their backs and health, I would like to make this project a machine accessible to all. By giving free access to this person-following trolley I hope that some people will do my project again and thus protect their health. I would also be happy to see someone remake my robot while making a modification that would allow it to better meet their needs. I can also understand that this project is not necessarily very easy to remake because it requires a lot of specific machinery. You need several types of machines to work the scrap metal, a big CNC to make the basket on top, a 3D printer and electronic equipment. However, this project can be used as a base and can be greatly modified and improved
My first intention is then to make a Common Creative License. I will put online all the files necessary for the reproduction of my robot so that anyone who wants to remake it can do so. Moreover I am open to any request for advice or information by mail or other communication channel. The only thing that would bother me a lot is if a third party took over my idea, my project, my plans and my files to make a commercial activity out of it.
This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
My ambition is not to make money with this project but to make the user earn money. For a person equipped and handyman it can be quite easy to remake my robot for a sum much more modest than the commercial solution (15 times less expensive). Moreover by protecting his back and his health by avoiding heavy loads he can in the long run save money too.
As long as you quote me in your documentation you can take my robot and improve it at your convenience!
Draft slide¶
Here is the draft of my slide for my final project. I will probably change the layout and the images but the idea will remain the same
Hero vidéo¶
Here are the first images from my final project video. I haven’t finished my project yet, so that’s why you can see my little car at the end. My goal is to replace this part when my robot will work.
