INVENTION, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY & INCOME

Week: 18

DISSEMINATION PLAN

QUESTION 1 : WHO IS YOUR PROJECT FOR?

  • The current stage of the project is not considered commercializable. My aim is to use it for educational purposes - by introducing students to a toy as well-known as a drone, and to show that it can be made on their own - it does not have to be bought, only materials and technical support are available, especially in the battery connection section, which can be dangerous. Drones are familiar to students, so through such a practical example, students could be much more interested in doing complex things (because electronics, design and programming just might seem simple), such a little deception to interest them. If the student is interested, then he / she will also be more open to complex tasks.

QUESTION 2 : HOW IS IT FUNDED?

  • The total cost of materials needed to make a drone should be financed by the educational institution. The "Bill of materials" section calculates the total cost of the drone, after which the educational institution should make an estimate of how much budget money can be spent on such an activity and how much students can pay for it. Educational institutions do not have a profit for themselves, so the budget can be small. It is possible to sponsor the cost of making drone materials, for example, for those students who have achieved high academic results during the school year. Remuneration of technical support / instructor from the municipal budget.

QUESTION 3 : INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES PROTECTION OF PROJECT?

  • Despite the fact that I am a municipal employee and the costs for participation in the program were covered from the municipal budget, the intellectual property rights still belong to me. That's why I use the MIT license. When students develop their drone project in collaboration with me, students should always include a reference to me as a mentor or author of an idea, unless the student creates an absolutely unique solution using only materials and equipment.

QUESTION 4 : IS THERE A BUSINESS PLAN?

  • Business plan - no, but evaluation and access to grants yes. For example, students develop this drone project as a research project in school. In Latvia, the place where I live, students with high achievements in scientific research are nominated to represent the country or receive recognition, including monetary awards.

QUESTION 5 : HOW WOULD YOU FUND SCALING UP?

  • In order to improve the existing project, only additional knowledge is needed, which can be accumulated with experience or by going on an experience exchange trip to drone manufacturing enthusiasts or high-level specialists. In order to make a commercial drone, it would be necessary to integrate other components, such as those that would allow the drone to fly in the rain or integrate a dark vision camera, in case of disappearance - the GPS location. To achieve this, it would be worthwhile to start in a start-up or start-up competition or other competitions that develop prototypes for further commercialization.

Note. One of this week's assignments was to upload a draft version of the final project slide and video. They have been replaced with the original files. See them on the final project main page here.
