Computer-Aided Design

Assignment of the week:
Model (raster, vector, 2D, 3D, render, animate, simulate, ...) a possible final project, and post it on your class page.
To do this assignment,we referred to the following tutorials provided in the following pages and Fab Foundation links:
1. 2D Modeling Tools and Tutorials
2. 3D Modeling Tools and Tutorials
3. UV MAPPING IN BLENDER
4. Antimony Tabs
5. Parametric Modeling of a Box Beam in Antimony

Software:

3D DESIGN

For the 3D design assignment I decided to draw a vase  and it's a good idea to practice. I have almost never used a 3D software before, and I decided to try on Rhinoceros 6 first because I already have it installed in my computer, but as I have no experience, I looked for some help and I found a You Tube tutorial where I can practice and learn.

2D DESIGN

I started the weekly assignment by looking through the listed programs www-pages. Just looking quickly what the programs are about. Some of them were familiar but many were totally new to me.
After going through each programs the www-pages, I selected few programs that I installed to my computer for more close inspection as this week we needed to try new software.

As I mention before, I have some experience with solidowrk and obviously it was my first option, but I decide to give a chance to InkScape and figuere out how it works.
we had a session on parametric design on our local node
I watched a video in youtube in designing Tabbed Box using Inkscape

In order to design I followed this steps :

1-setup pagesize and grid and Change the units and the default units to inches And then we assume that we are using 24” x 24” piece of material
2-Now we draw boxes with the following sizes :
4”x3”  4”x3.5” then  select ctrl + A and then click on none to change the fill to none make the objects ready for laser cutting Then shift click on red color to xhange the stroke and edges to red
3-And finally make the drawings ready and save it as PDF
The Steps to make this 3d object was as followed :
1- I draw a circle  with diameter of 10
2- I copied this circle with distance of 20mm
3-browsing between the side and the front view
4-I draw another circle by copying the 10 diameter circle then resize it to 5mm
5-i looked at the plan view
6-i tried to make the design to look symmetrical as I can
7-I connected the edges to complete the object
8-rendering
9-finally the 3d vase is here
