17. Wildcard week¶
This week I made an engraving using a sandblaster
Design¶
- The PNG image for the design was obtained from here. Then I vectorized it using Inkscape.

Vinyl Cutting¶
- After that I proceeded to vinyl cut a sticker corresponding to the vectorized image and the result was as follows.

Laser Cutting¶
- I then modified the design by only keeping the outline of it. Then, I used the laser cutter to cut acrylic that corresponds to the outline(picture is as shown below).

Sandblasting¶
- Next I put the Vinyl cut sticker on the Laser-cut shape so that the result looks as follows.

- The Sandblasting machine used looks as shown in the figures. The gloves in the second picture are what the user uses and inserts hands into the machine to hold the product while he sprays the high-pressure sand on it.

Inside
- Firstly, place the design where it’s easy to reach.
Place design
- Secondly, switch on the Sandblaster by turning on three switches to the positions shown in the pictures.

Third switch
-
After turning on the switches the machine starts, then hold the design in place while you spray the high-pressure sand on it, Due to the high-pressure sand hitting the acrylic the uncovered places by the sticker get scratched hence creating an engraving.
-
Then, the design is removed, washed and the result looks as follows.
