Invention, intellectual property and income

The past few years i've been incredibly lucky to be in a position to see people work on this specific topic. As a workshop manager for Makerversity I was very close to the journey of many makers and entrepeneurs developing their ideas. Some into one of a kind inventions others into commercial products. During this period I also worked for a company that makes a single serve coffee machine, Spinn. And in a moments time they grew from one prototype into another and finally now into production. Also I cam across less succesfull stories - ones where people work tirelessly on their amazing ideas but without reall succes.

To me bringing services, products or ideas to life depends seems very complex. On the one hand, if your lucky it can be relatively simple if you have the right people, channels and partners around you. On the other, if you don't for whatever reason it can be a tidious process that i'm definatly not interested in.

That being said, if I succeed building the first version for the pensieve, i'd like to test it as a proof of concept. Than I would like to iterate and create new versions - different shapes (wall mount or full installation) but also add new ways of interaction (new sensors and actuators). And invite others to do the same. A relativly simple - and relativly cheap way - of doing this is selling the PCB's and invite fellow makers to make their own pensieve and add upon my work.

Depending on the final design and demand I'd love to sell a small run locally. Perhaps through influencers or local demonstrations. But this is still very speculative and verry much far into the future.

On the creative commons site is a very easy tool that helps you pick the proper licensing. To prepare for the pensieves possible future the follwing licensing would make sense.
