Place your mug on the table, the lights will glow and vice versa.
An interactive smart coffee table which designed to support the relaxation need, it has a phototransistor IR sensor and NeoPixel strip. With the interaction between your cupper, changeable colours of NeoPixels and of course good mood, this will increase the effectiveness and vitality of your tea time by glowing every time you place your mug on the table.
I will work as distance detector for the cup or mug movement which will be the “input part” or the action of the project. The LED is the “output part” the interaction of the ir sensor.
# ShopBot - I used the shopbot machine to cut the wood pieces of the table. The plywood 12mm and approximate size of 120x110 cm.
# IR Phototransistor Sensor- The sensor were used to sense the transitions and to detect nearby objects that paased from the top of the table inorder to interact with the light.
# Neopixel Strip- The neopixel strip was used at the bottom of the table one meter long. The strip is attached to the sensor, which reacts or works if any object passes over the sensor.
# Acrylic sheet - The transparent acrylic was integrated into the open middle part of the table and cutted by the laser amchine as well as added the decoration or design on the acrylic to give it a more beautiful shape and hide the electronic's parts under the table.
# Electronic Case - Electronics or electrical holder or case. Designed using the Fusion 360 program and was printed using the 3D printing machine "Ultimaker 3 Extended" from PLA material, bule color with 0.3mm layer hight, wall thinkness 1mm , top and bottom thinkness 2mm, the infill 20% and the print speed is 70%. The place where this part is located at the bottom of the table, the bottom of the acrylic piece directly attached by the wooden part of table's leg.
The board - The circuit board was designed using Eagel and Roland-SR20 for milling the board. Where many componentes were used in the board such as Attiny84, Capacitor 1uF, Resistors Zero, 1K and 10K, FTDI header and ISP headers.
I gratefully acknowledge the Foundation of Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance , Fab Lab UAE Fab Lab UAE, Dubai, 2018, for providing a Digital Manufacturing Diploma Scholarship and creating for us an innovation supporting environmentunder to create, innovate and learn novel ways of manufacturing skills.
After graduation, I undertook to :
1. Present five workshops from what I've learnt in Fab Academy.
2. Make a project.
My thanks also go to the support I received from our instructor in the lab Wendy Neale, Engineer Hashim Al Sakkaf mostly in electronics weeks, classmates and colleagues in fablab UAE all of them for being such a great team by collaborating and sharing various skills with each other.
Thank You.
