Assignment Week5
3D scanning and printing

This week's assignment is "design and 3D print an object that could not be made subtractively, and 3D scan an object (and optionally print it)"

I I tried 3 method to scan rea object.

Using KINECT

I used KINECT and Windows software "scanect".
This application is very useful but setting and movement of scan was sensitive. So little difficult.
If we have a problem, check the scan field and scale down!!
Other point, night scan is not recommended. I fail scan at night. So I recommend scan at brightly place as possible.

1. Start the scanect in Windows.
2. Select scan mode. object size, and more.
3. Move and scan using KINECT!
4. Check and save data.

The stl File can be downloaded my Thingiverse site.

Using 123D Catch

I used iPhone application "123Dcatch".

This application is to make 3D model from many pictures. I take many pictures of real model using 12Dcatch, so this application send to AutoDesk's server automatically.

Pictures data is calculated in server and send back to me.

So I can see good quality 3D data.

Using MDX-20

MDX-20 can scan object using scan prove.

This probe detect upper side of an object. And, scan data can convert to stl.

1. Replace head of MDX-20
2. Open application "PICZA" that is made of Roland DG.
3. Input detect area data.
4. Start scan.
5. Check and save to STL data.

I scaned the Japanese famous chocolate snack "Black Thunder".

The stl File can be downloaded my Thingiverse site.

3D designing and Printing

I try to design 3D print that is something useful.

Then, I decided to make holder for our warkspace.

First I made 3D data using Rhinoceros.

Draw lines and translate poly-surface, and make solid data.

Next, I Export stl file, and load to 3D print software "Repetier-Host". The stl File can be downloaded here.

After the load, object-layout setting, and crick "slicer" tab, and execute slice.

After slice, do the printer setting, check the temperature of nozzle, and execute pirnt.

Complete!!

Good!!

One more thing...

I have printed "Black Thunder" too. It's looks like the real... Data is here.
