The aim of this class was to create something on a bigger scale using the milling machine. The content of the class can be found "here" .

Design:

The Chair is being design in Rhino simple as a 2D drawing and then extruded according to the material thickness of 15mm. Its a pressfit construction where the sitting plate is interlocking the sides and back panel.

Fabrication:

Choosen Material: OSB 2500x1200x15mm

Machine: Shopbot Gantry

Software: Shopbot Pathworks

Design Layout Tools

- Extensive import filters for DXF, AI, EPS, and PDF files. (Export to DXF, EPS, AI).

- Import and trace functions for bitmap images and art (JPG, BMP, TIF, GIF, PNG).

Toolpathing Strategies

- Profiling with Lead-ins; outside, inside or on-line

- Pocketing

- V-Carving; any closed vector whether text or art work

- Save work as ShopBot Part File (.sbp) to run on ShopBot or as .crv file to work with again in PartWorks

The design is being exported as an dxf file and imported into Pathworks. The Files to send are being devided into the fixing points, inside paths, and outlines. The Milling bit being used has a size of 6mm which is important for the corners where you always have to make sure especially in the pocket that the bit can actually drill and reach the corners. The margins for the pockets are 2mm.

Dimensions are 450 x 450 x 650
