History of León

The capital of the Old Kingdom of León surprises the traveler who approaches it for the first time, due to its admirable historical and artistic monuments -The Cathedral, San Marcos, San Isidoro, are the most universal-, which are integrated into a modern city full of landscaped squares, parks, fountains and wide avenues. This harmonious conjunction of venerable stones, steeped in history, with careful urban development with the environment and quality of life, makes the City of León a first-class destination for Cultural Tourism.

The tradition of welcoming travelers, since León was a transit city on the Camino de Santiago, in the High Middle Ages, remains happily alive. If then, a thousand years ago, the people of León knew how to "give the pilgrim an inn", today the City of León is a welcoming city, with an updated hotel facility, good restaurants and inns, and a permanent cultural and leisure activity. Upon arrival, by road or rail, the traveler will immediately feel the hospitality of its inhabitants, who know how to act as hosts with simplicity and wisdom.
