Inventions, Intellectual Property and Income

This week my work was focused on the final project, with the presentation and the video.

The main goal of the project is not to create an object, but to set a methodology, so this project in particular will not be held to any copyright license, it's not the point. This project will be free and opened for everyone to use, specifically if some car brands want to use it in their design studios.

This project will be shown to car designers in my circle so in the "afterlife of the project", a page that will be updated after FabAcademy ends, I'll post some feedback and some insights of its utilization

The methodology is all about collaborative design and parametric creation. By creating different interchangeable parts that fit the same base, the designers can adapt to an existing platform, but most important, by switching from clay to PLA and making the parts interchangeable, the previous iteration is not destroyed when the design is modified

Chapter One: Inventions

I'm not doing any new invention here, I'm just mixing already well proven technologies in a new environment never used before. Shops like Decathlon use RFID technology so their clothes store individual information in their tags. Even small food markets in Spain are starting to use this technology to monitorize when does their product expire. On the other side of the story, the new car brands or startups like RIMAC use 3D printing in their design studios. So this is just a mixture of both technologies

Chapter two: Intellectual property

My work is free for everyone to use. My car design was a tribute to my friend and Maestro Oscar Scaglietti and is not production ready for any car brand, so if anyone wants to just make a small toy model with my design, then feel free to do so!

Chapter three: income

When we talk about income we have to talk about why we do FabAcademy. Are you a maker because you want to get rich? Then you're not probably going on the right road... My job as a FabLab Manager does give me enough income so I can live comfortably, but for sure I believe that car brands would benefit economically, but I don't think it's going to give me anything else than credit for a future job. So yeah, this project won't make me rich. But you now what? It made me very happy. And why do we measure success in terms of money? I prefer measuring success in terms of happiness. And with this project I became very successful.

Chapter Four: The slide

I created this slide in a very simple and clear way, to highlight the finishing of the models and the functionalities of the two versions.

Chapter Five: the video

This video shows the models working, the steps we went through in order to create them.

Credit to musician Derani who created this amazing epic version of Gigi D'agostino's L'amour toujours, my signature song of this FabAcademy, which is the perfect fit for my video. Click here to give him support.
