3. Computer Aided design

This week I explored how to make my 2d drawing into a 3D model.

Here’s my model drawn with Pencil

TinkerCAD

I started with TinkerCAD

Here’s my initial model uploaded to sketchfab.

I started with the basic house structure and roof. I used the cube and roof basic shapes and when I found the proportions that were initially ok I used the intersection icon to combine the structures together. I started off by making the house portion hollow, but when I exported it as an stl file only the solid stucture remained so I resaved everything as a solid shape and will have to figure out how to make everything hollow and re-export in a next step.

Next I added windows and doors.

I started with a cylinder shape which I then added to the middle roof and I used the subtraction icon to remove this shape from the other one.

Next I added boxes to teh bottom to hollow out the entire structure.

3D Torso

Here’s a model of my torso designed in Makehuman and uploaded in Sketchfab. Just for fun. I did this work in Fabricademy

I continued work on this adding windows and doors and hollowing out the interior of the structure. Aesthetically I do not like it. I still need to add the decorative porches, doors and side windows.

I downloaded FreeCAD and started working on that program as well. I had to override the privacy settings on the Mac to download it.

Lessons Learned

I suppose it’s more a lesson I am still learning as opposed to one fully learned is to start early and learn to enjoy the process and not just the end product. Because that is what life is really anyway. The process.
