Task:
- Design a machine that includes mechanism + actuation + automation, Build the mechanical parts and operate it manually. Document the group project
Design
Our first idea was to build a Pina Colada machine but we didn't end up making it because of:- The Cream of Coconut would need to be warmed to make it more liquid. Otherwise, the pumps would not be able to pump it.
- Ice would have to be crushed
- Everything needs to be shaked
The idea of a mixing machine was good, so we thought about another drink and came to the decision to build a Tequila Sunrise Machine.
The advantages are:
- Tequila Sunrise needs only Grenadine, Orange juice and of course the Tequila
- Special temperatures are not needed
- Only the Grenadine is a little more viscous
- No shaking needed
- Peristaltic pumps
- Step down converter
- 24 Volt power adapter
- Arduino Nano
- Arduino nano protshield/ breakout board
- Button
- Relays
- Piezo Buzzer
- Some baby bottles
- Perfboard
- Maker beam set
Programming
Programming was rather simple, as you can see in the pictures below.
As you can see wee assigned the pin placements and the amount of time the pump is working.

We actually needed a smaller glass for authenticity, but we had none in the lab. We found this coffee pot but it's too large- yet you can still see the colors.CHEERS!
Ok anyways, let's go on to the...Problems
We first decided to use solenoid valves to pump the liquid through the tubes. This didn't work out well. That's why we used a peristaltic pumps.
Future opportunities
It is possible to make this project larger with more time. It would also be cool to include a mixer to make more complicated cocktails.Contributors
