  • Trace the progress of your final project.

  • I have analyzed the progress of my final project by answering the questions below.



    Week-18 :

    Fab academy is all about what technics you have learn and how you will use it practically. Which will ferther will developed skill within you. The next will how much you learn from this. What problems have you faced. And the result is seen in the form of "Final project". Where we use the technics we learned and get the result. So, this week will help us for getting the idea of where we are at the stage of developing project. In this week we have answer some questions which we ask to ourself, which gives us the idea of what work had been done and what need to be done.

    What tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain ?

    I have divided my project in two parts :
    1) To develop a Mechanical structure.
    2) To work on Electronic part.

    Completed task :

    In the Mechaical part :

  • In my project I will need the hopper in which I will put all the dray matter which have to be shred. So I have design a foldable hopper and have cut that design on the Plasma cutter.

  • Have design blades require in the conveying mechanism

  • Have done with the selection of DC motors for driving the conveyer mechanism and for rotating the cutting blades.

  • Also have done with the testing of DC motor of cutting section with and without blades. The reason of testing the DC motor of cutting sectionwith and without blades is, cutting blades are heavey. So I have tested it to conform about whethere the shaft of motor will rotate properly with load of blades.

  • The design of the casing for electronic stuff and 3D casing for input sensor is ready with Solidworks the 3D designing software.

    In the Electronic part :

  • Selection of microcontroller.

  • Selection of Input device/sensor.

  • My project is mainly depend upon the avaiablity of sunlight. If the light available is greater than 500lux then only I will turn on the motor. For setting this limit of lux. I have tested the maximum available light intencity with the help of Lux meter

  • PCB board designing and milling.

  • Testing of Input sensor on Arduino board.

  • Have written the code for controlling the DC motor with project board having atmega328p microcontroller.

  • I have tested the code on Arduino board by connecting the toy motor or gear motor.

    Remaining task :

    In the Mechaical part :

  • Assembely of all mechanical components of final structure.

  • Testing of DC motors after assembely.

  • Designing the casing for input sensor BH1750 on 3D printer

  • Casing for mounting placing electronic stuff on Laser cutter.

  • Laser cutted stand for mounting 3D printed casing of BH1750 sensor


    In the Electronic part :

  • Testing of output device i.e. the DC motor on main board.

  • Writing the code for driving the whole system on board.

  • Testing and troubleshooting of the main board .

  • Combine testing of input and output device with main board.

  • Interfacing of input/output devices and main board with Anroid appliction.

  • Final installation of the electronic components with the mechanicl structure.

  • Testing of whole system with combination of mechanical structure and electronic stuff


    Anroid application :

    I am going to operate my system through Anroid appliction. In which I can see the readings of available light in the form of lux and buttons for ON and OFF the motor accordingly.

    Presentation work :

    The most important is presenting our work infront of the people. In such a way that they can understand. For that I need to prepair the ppt and a short vedio of 1 min which will explain my work.

    What's working ? What's not ?

    What is working :

  • I have assembled the conveyer mechanism with motor drive (Wiper motor) and have tested it is working.

  • DC motor for cutting section is also working. Due to lock down I have not get the motor which I have selected for driving the cutting blades. But in the Ashram I have found a motor with similar specification and which gives the torque upto 5Nm. Shubham and Amol sir. Who help me for selecting this motor.

  • Next I have tested the BH1750 with project board. It shows the required readings of light intencity in Lux.

  • The main DC motor of the system is working with blades and without blades.

    What is not working :

  • The board for driving the system is not working. The code which I have with Arduino board for testing BH1750 is not work on the main project board.

  • In mechanical system the main issue that I have fasing is adjusting the alignment of DC motor. It is defficult adjust the alignment of the motor carring cutting blades.

    What questions need to be resolved ?

  • How to trobleshoot the board to make it working for the system.

  • How to fix the problem of motor alignment.

  • How to operate system on Anroid appliction.

  • Next I will also have to prepair ppt and final project vedio for presentation.

  • I have also have to work on assignment work for local and global evaluation.

    What will happen when ?

  • I am a mechanical engineer so I will choose to go for fixing the mechanical problem first. Also, if we have strong mechanical structure then installation of electronic components are easy.

  • Upto 12 July I will fixe all the problems with mchanical system and and will drive it.

  • Upto 17 July I will solve the problem in my board and will run the board with BH1750 sensor and motor on Anroid app. If will face any problem I will discuss it with my colleagues and our instructur Suhas sir.

  • On 18 July I will take a final run of the whole system with Anroid app.

  • Upto 19 I will keep ready the casing design for electronic components and 3D casing for input sensor BH1750

  • Upto 21 July I will prepair the ppt and vedio of final presentation, so that I will be ready on 22 July for the presention.

    What have you learned ?

  • From this assignment I have understand about the work which I have done and which is reamining.

  • I also got the way in which I will finish my remaining work.

  • I have learn about how and where to use different 2D and 3D designing sofwares.

  • How to troubleshoot the board and how to write the program for perticular operation of the system.

  • From this assignment I have learnd how to mannage all the things when we feel the situation is not in our control.

    Project plan :

    To complete the project on time I think I need to schedule the task. For that I have prepair the Gantt-chart. It was difficult to follow the planed schedule but I have tried to complete some task during my assignments week. And have completed the other task one by one during in the remaining weeks. I will try to finish my work five to six days before final project presentation. So that I will take a final run an should focus on prepairing presentation slide and video.

Week1-15

    I have prepare the above Gantt-chart at the starting of my fab academy. It was a tentative palnning of the work that I am going to perform during my fab academy diploma. Due as I have mentioned in many of my assignments, due to lock down many of the task defined in the above chart were not get completed on the time. It was the problem of all student in the various fab labs all over the world. So Fab foundation have extend the date of final project presentation. Because due to COVID-19 students doesn't have the access to their lab. So I have manage my work accordingly. And have present the final project on 22 July 2020.

    Learning outcomes :

  • To complete the project on time, I have complete some task like app designing, designing and fabricating the foldable hopper, designing program during my assignments.

  • And reamining task I have completed as per I have decided and have mentioned in the question What will happen when ?

  • I have learn the most important technique of time management which will help me in my future. I have also learn the technique of document as I work and collete the data, which have help me to complete my document properly.

  • Because many of the time some of our work were not get complete our work on time. If we have the require data, then it will helpful to us as a reference to complete the documentation.

  • Also I have learn team work by completing different group assignmnets during the fab academy. Especially Mechanical design and machine design assignmnet.

  • And lot other techniques which will help me in future in my career.
