Applications And Implications

Learning outcomes
  • Define the scope of a project.
  • Develop a project plan.

    1.What will it do?

My final project it will be a healthy care kit for kids. It is deivde to tow projects, first project is a Portable Posture Monitor device. Users can set it up or put it on a table/ desk to assist them enhance their body posture while they are working/ studying for long hours. This device helps children to monitor the body posture since early age, and gradually could build a habit of sitting correctly. Nowadays, we are under a challenging circumstance that force all education entities to shift to distance/ online learning. The distance education could be via TV, laptop, mobile, or iPad, which means long hours seated on chairs. Therefore, I thought about making this device, and how to make it tempting and interesting to children. Therefore, designing an interactive device would be interesting and could encourage children to use it constantly in order to achieve the main objective which is mentioned above. Example: The design should have a character that can express feelings and emotion of satisfying, happiness and sadness ..etc, this feedback depends on the child's  body posture. I may be able to make it move based on the child's  movement, or maybe it is just going to be expressions. This Character will be friendly and communicate effectively with the user. It also stimulates the child to move by sending recommended exercises, and he can score points or perhaps complete a daily session for the character, for example, if exercises are applied, the character becomes stronger or bigger. The secound will be a smart water bottle to enhance the kid to keep drinking water while studing or during the whole day.

    2.Who has done what beforehand?

First, I discussed the idea with teachers and instructors who more directly deal with children and I observed them while running the distance learning. I noticed the students body posture, then I searched all available products and applications that are concerned with the health of the child's  body. Interestingly, the search results mainly found back support belts and chairs.. etc, then I decided to look for inventions, so I search deeply and I found two devices are really close to my idea, and two other devices have features that I want to add to my projects.

Two projects implement my project's goal:
    Eye forcer
    Banzeye

Two projects that have their characters:
    Tamagotchi
Smart Water bottle kids Gululu Go
    Ulo
    Giiro

    3.What will you design?

As for the design, a character will be designed either I will simply design it or it will be inspired after collecting ideas from children around me and then re-draw it on 3D to make the character more alive and tempting to children and will be quite inspired by children imagination.
I will focus on prototyping an efficient character that actively responds to the movement/ sensibilities of inclination and movement. Electronic wise, I will try to design it to complement week 8 and that may vary according to the lab availability. Also I will design and fabricate a water bottle with small Interactive screen.

4.What materials and components will be used?

Colorful PLA, and for sure electronics components.

    Bill of materials

    5.Where will they come from?

I have the filament and the 3d printer,I will test the electronics that I already have it.
If does not work I will contact the electronics shops if they can deliver it.

    6.How much will they cost?

    ABIZO Robot 262 SR

    Hyration water bottle 75.5 SR

7.What parts and systems will be made?

The robot it self, the hydration water bottle, and the PCB electronics circuits.

    8.What processes will be used?

3D Pinter to print the projects, maybe the Cricut to add the details.
Milling Machine for the PCB if the lab available-.

9.What questions need to be answered?
    • How is it possible to connect the character to the program?
    • How will the character be connected to the child?
    • Is it possible to make the character sense the child's  posture only or to mimic and the child movements?
    • Am I going to have enough time to design both a program and a character or it is going to be more beneficial and efficient to design a character at this stage?
    • What sensors are going to be used?
    • Are labs will be open soon, or it will remain closed upon the COVID 19 lockdown?

      10.How will it be evaluated?

If the character move and sense the bad and good posture of the kid, and if the water bottle act like an alarm for the kid to refill it after it done or if he did not drink water for one hour. I will be so proud If it works fine.
