Many commerical blenders and food processors have built-in safety interlocks. The device cannot be operated unless the blender cup sit firmly on the motor. This safety feature however cannot prevent accidents from happening when the blender cup cover is not properly closed. The user can still operate the blender with the cup completely not covered.
My preliminary project idea is to create a device that can be attached to ANY blender to provide a safety interlock such that the blender cannot be powered unless the cover is properly placed.
The device consists of 3 parts, namely (i)magnet holder; (ii) RF transmitter and (iii) RF receiver and relay. When the magnet is aligned with the RF transmitter, the circuit is closed and a signal is transmitted to the RF receiver which will activate the relay switch to supply power to the blender. When the blender cup is not covered or the magnet is not properly aligned, the reed switch will be opened and hence no current will be supplied to the blender hence preventing dangerous situation from ocurring.
