Week 13: Invention, intellectual property, and income

develop a plan for dissemination of your final project
prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080)
     and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, ~minute, ~10 MB)
and put them in your root directory

Dissemination

I have no interest to commercialize my final project. Inspiration and motivation to make a buttonbox came from desire to develop hardware related to gaming. I believe this is a good stepping stone to learn more about digital fabrication for this kind of products. That's why I am planning to use a license which gives a freedom to use my work with a few limitations for people with same interest. I am going keep improving the design after academy till I am satisfied with the result.

I will most likely make a another site to track my progress after the academy. That gives a chance to document what I have done and also store information I have gathered. During the academy I have noticed that best way for me to learn is to write down the process and critical information of the process. That is the main reason currently to keep documenting the progress somewhere. Depending how much time and energy I have to keep it updated in the future will decide how it will be build.

License

I am going to use Creative Commons license for non-software part of my final project and MIT for the software. I looked through few licenses such as Creative Commons, Apache, MIT and FAB before making the choice. Creative Commons is popular license for many purposes, especially for media. Apache and MIT licences are intended for a software. FAB license could be used for a larger portion of creative works. Previously mentioned licenses also grant extensive rights to use the material with exception of Creative Commons which has many different versions.

Attribution (CC BY 4.0) is my choice for the CC license. This will let people copy, distribute, modify and build upon my work even for commercial purpose. MIT license is similar by rights it gives for people using the code.

Video and slide

Here is the video of the final project.

I used Openshot video editor to edit the material and screen recording with OBS if needed. Handbrake will be used to modify the quality and size of the file. I have used all of these tools on other weeks as well.

Here is the slide of the final project.
