The Design

for this assignment i want to do something for the kids in my home. so i decided on making a toy storage that can be used as trolly as well. and just to make it more fun i made it in the shape of elephant.

important design remarks:

to make sure that the pieces will fit together this little step is required. as we have seen in the group assignment that the bit shape will have its effect on forming edges and sharp angles. thus this little addition will insure that we have free way for the material to pass through the slot.

Making Process

first of all the material is secured on the shopbot using screws on the edges. then i prepared the files on the software to get the propre settings and file type. once the dxf file is imported then i slected all the holes and slots and saved them as 1 profile. and then the other lines i selected themm and saved them as profile 2. this step was to decide what to cut when. then a single toolpath is generated with both the profiles.

after importing the file to shopbot software. i had to zero the x and y to my prefered point.

then i fited the part on the shopbot working area with screws. and then ordered the machine to start.
after fitting everything together i found the structure very loose and unrigid. so i designed a small part to add it to the design which will bring more rigidity to the structure.

this is final view of the thing i made. still i have to put the wheels on and try it.

i made few mistakes in the design and i would like to mintion them. first of all the slot should be smaller then the material thikness (for mdf). also the design should be bounded from multiple dirctions.
