Machine Design


This week we made the plotter. the final video and group work is documented in the labs page.QBIC FabLab
me and feras were responsible for designing the pen holder mechanisim and the side brackets which is everthing on the y axis. we came up with the idea to make head one part that can be printed rather then makeing it multiple parts to be assembled to gether to make it simple and we want to make it adaptable were you can just change the pen holder with anything and it will work fine. we used solid works to design the parts.


we made a draft machine just to test the mechanisim and since we are not using bearing on the rods. the decision was to work with what we had at hand we so we dont waste time looking for available parts in the market. we assembled the parts and tested it we found that the pen holder is not stable and the side brackets are too tight on the rods.


to fix this we added sleevs to the pen holder and made the hols slightly bigger and the results this time were better as the vibration from the pen head was eleminated and the brackets were moving freely. i assembled gears opposite to each motor to connect the belt. i used bearing here to move the gear freely.
