19. Invention, intellectual property and income¶
Objectives :¶
- [x] Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project.
- [x] Prepare drafts of your summary slide (presentation.png, 1920x1080)
- [x] Prepare draft of your video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < 1~minute, < ~10 MB)
Dissemination plan¶
The plan is to develop the project further as an open source project. The revolver head is essential to the DIY market and for maker spaces to grow into the future where the form factors of electronic components are already shrinking beyond eye-sight. Needless to say that we cannot wait till the maker-spaces become unable to produce own electronics.
I will setup a website for sharing the sources and optimizing both the designs and the software for the better of everybody.
The DIY section will be the main focus and building these machines from e-waste my personal priority. I hope to make this into a community driven effort on pick and place for home use and the project will be available on the community site:
- RotoPick PnP site: http://rotopick.org
- And of course the Facebook page
- Using our partner vloggers at codettes.org for incorporation of PnP into their video instructions on youtube
The work will be completely free and open for non commercial use under the Creative Commons license.
Parts of the project might be patented to protect corporate/commercial usage thereof with a contribution to the community.
Intellectual Property¶
The goal of the project is to have an open, easy and low-cost way to detect the opponent for a lot of teams. Saying that, the project will be completely open with just an attribution licence.
The Creative Commons website offers a nice chart for selecting the proper license that fits your desires. I found helpful information on Gustavo Deabreu website.
To apply the licence and have the logo and the right terms on your project go to the the creative commons site.
The website generates the HTML to include in your website showing your license
<a rel="license" href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/"><img alt="Creative Commons License" style="border-width:0" src="https://i.creativecommons.org/l/by-nc-sa/4.0/88x31.png" /></a><br />This work is licensed under a <a rel="license" href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/">Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License</a>.
You have to include this license throughout your website and project files.
Presentation draft¶
Requirements for the slide :¶
- My name
- The project name
- The FabLab name
- A photo/render/sketch of the project
- A brief description of the project
The list of questions to be answered with the final project are listed in next week’s assignment.

Draft for video¶
For this assignment just made a quick slide-based video with all information i want to show. This video serves for placeholder for the final video where all images will be replaced with short videos with text mixed in on the designated topic. If there is enough time we will add voice over.
The video should be no more than 1 minute long and adhere to HTML5 video standards.
I created the base slides in Google slides and exported them as JPEG files. After that i uploaded my slides to youtube - movie maker and montage from there as a image slideshow.
The story line¶
The idea is to follow the story line here for purpose of sharing with the Fab Community and maybe even start a small movement for my project:
- Title page - fabAcademy
- Reasoning & Concept
- Design stage
- Production stage
- Electronics production
- Assembly
- View of the project with :” what works and what needs to be improved”
- Project future
- Final view with credits
