Principles and practices

Introduction

Hi! So my fab journey begins here. In this week we have discussed with principles and practices of fab lab. Also we met with different machines and tools in fab lab. this assignment in first week was to plan and sketch a potential final project. But I go up with two ideas that I want to do most. Semi-Automatic vetical farm and a Strandbeest. Let see what it is..

Semi-Automatic Vertical Farm/Garden

Semi-automatical vertical farm is set to adapt the fusion of farming with new gen technology. Vertical farming is a modern technology to minimize water and space in farming. Unlike convensional farming techniques, it doesnt need lots of horizontal space. Also the amount of water and fertilizers are lesser than conventional methodes. #

The challenge

Gardening is a fun activity. It get sweeter when we get good results. But for small houses, the usage of available space cannot be compromise for this purpose. Also people want to have fresh vegitables and fruits from their home. But most of them cannot spare time for nurturing plants. Also they cannot put more effort like they do in regular work. So let's what can fix it ??

The Solution

Vertical farm or garden is the effective soluion fot this problem. For those who can spare a little time for planting can be solved using a smart IoT(Internet Of Things) interface. Thats way they can monitor and control every aspect of their farm/garden.

In my project, the sets in nurturing of plants are automated. Aeroponics system is used for effective watering to plants. A camera will inspect the farm in programmed intervals to process out the posible growth and damage happpend to plants. A microcontroller will collect data through different sensors and adjust the parameters as directed. Also the whole system will connect to internet to interface with the user. In this way the farmer can monitor and control the whole system manually(if it nessesary)

Strandbeest

#

Strandbeest is Kinetic sculpture. Theodorus Gerardus Jozef "Theo" Jansen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈteːjoː ˈjɑnsə(n)]; born 14 March 1948) is a Dutch artist. In 1990, he began building large mechanisms out of PVC that are able to move on their own and, collectively, are entitled, Strandbeest. The kinetic sculptures appear to walk.

The challenge

Here these kinectic structures can fit to any surface. These easy to make. But my goal is to make it automatic or remote control. So they can be used for future puroses.

#

The Solution

So I am making a Strandbeest that can detect objects and find its path at its own. Also able to control using remote control and use for navigation and defense purposes...

The above picture represents the basic structure of my project. So we will design and make it in the upcomming weeks.......
