Week no.18

  • Invention
  • Intellectual Property
  • and Income

Assigments :
  • Develop a plan for dissemination of your final project
  • Prepare a summary slide (presentation.png, 1280x1024)
  • and video clip (presentation.mp4, 1080p HTML5, < ~minute, < ~10 MB) in your root directory

Invention, Intellectual Property, and Income

The chosen strategy is to make the project public and open source based on the Creative Commons 4.0 license.

For the invention, the direct drive system is eligible for a utility type patent but requires an extensive search for similar utility inventions. Since it´s still on development, I could go for a public disclosure and benefit from 1 year time protection to file it (in US). Here in Brazil there is a similar protection, if you go public on an event like Fabacademy you have a 6 months period to file your paten, here we call “período de graça”. But the problem is that, despite it is a good idea, there is no technological barrier and is very difficult to identify infringement since it could be made in any FabLab in the world.

All information on this site is open source and free to replicate under a MIT license, you can freely use, modify and distribute all information since you preserve the authoring (the lineage of this work).

The mechanism system for a direct drive delta as well as the whole printer project is a creative work and have copyrights licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. It adds permission to:

  • Replicate the work
  • Reproduce the work
  • Make uses of it in a non-commercially way
  • It´s free to distribute under use of the same or compatible license

And finally, it´s a personal project and a academic work. As income I plan to share it and benefit form educational related work.
