20. Project development

This week we needed to work on our final project as this was the last week of the FabAcademy. We had to track the progress of the final project and all previous assignment and work on the pending things.

What tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain?

I started to work on my final project on 25th of May and planned to complete all tasks on or before 12th of June. First, I went through the thought process of how the project gonna look like, what all features and functions it would have, what all parts I would need and a little bit about programming. Then I worked on CAD model and schematic. Then I started purchasing the materials. Once, I have all the material for the structure fabrication, I will start machining.

Completed tasks(on 6th June)

  • CAD model has been designed on which I have been working since May 28th.
  • All design files for laser and CNC cutting has been designed on 4th June.
  • Schematic and PCB board files have been designed on 5th June.
  • All materials (for structure and electronics) have been procured.
  • Coding is at the final stage.
  • Some of the parts have been 3D printed.

Taks to be completed

  • Machining is remaining. I need to cut parts for the structure which includes CNC cutting and laser cutting.
  • Boards need to be milled but our SRM20 is not working.
  • will have to assemble all things after cutting.
  • Testing of the codes remaining.

What has worked and what hasn’t?

  • I tested the circuit and stepper motors working in my output devices week. so there shouldn’t be any problem in working of the motors in the final project.

What questions need to be resolved?

  • I haven’t tested the networking code for the project and I am not sure if it would work properly or not.

What will happen when?

  • The structure will be completed by Sunday, June 9.
  • Assembly of all parts will be done on Monday, June 10.
  • PCB milling will be done as soon as we get the machine repaired.
  • Testing and debugging will be done after that.
  • My plan is to complete the project by 12th June.

Timeline

What have you learned?

I have learned so many things during this fab(ulous) journey. I learned new things every week. There were few things which I already knew like laser cutting, 3d printing, electronics but after attending Neil’s lecture I got to know many things about these machines and the process which I didn’t know before. So, certainly, fabacademy helped me in acquiring new skills and brushing up my old skills.

The things about which I had no idea before joining the fabacademy and learned in past 5 months are:-

  • Website development
  • PCB milling
  • How to work with smd components
  • Interface and application programming
  • how to file for the patent and get the license
