The assignment this weak is to answer a few quastions about my final project.
For my final project I want to make a cover for a chair. The cover would detect if someone is sitting in the chair and when someone has been sitting for too long it will notify the person. For notification I would like to use extra bright LED so everyone in the room can tell, make it a little bit embarrassing. I want it to promote health because to many people, including myself, spend to much time sitting in front of a computer.
There are quite a few ristbands/watches and apps that tell you when you need to move more but I could not find any chairs or covers for chairs that do so.
I will design the cover. I have already designed the clip to fasten the cover unto the seat. I will be designing the circuit board and the code for it. I will design a box for the circuit and the battery, so it will look neat.
The cover will be made of some stretchy material, something like sheets are made off. One part of the clip is 3D printed and the other is made from moulding and casting. It is made from smooth-cast. The board is made from a copper plate using the proper components for it. The processor will be an attiny44 and I will use the ADXL345. I have not yet decided how I will make the box for the circuit board and the battery but it will most likely be 3D printed or lasercut.
Most of the material comes from the FabLab in Vestmannaeyjar and some of it I got in the FabLab in Reykjavík. However I bought my accelerometer myself from sparkfun.
I will be making the cover, clip, circuit board and code, and the box to keep the battery and the circuit in.
I used the 3D printer to make one part of the clip and used moulding and casting to make the other half. I am using the milling machine to make the circuit board. I have not yet decided how I want to make the box but I will most likely use the 3D printer or the laser cutter. I will be using a sewing machine to sew the cover.
Learning Outcomes:
Create your own integrated design.
Demonstrate 2D & 3D modelling capabilities applied to your own designs.
I have been using Fusion to design in 3D. I Use Inkscape to design in 2D.
Select and apply appropriate additive and subtractive techniques.
Additive technice I use is 3D printing. Subtractive technique I use is milling the mold in molding and casting.
Demonstrate competence in design, fabrication and programming of your own fabbed microcontroller PCB, including an input & output devicec.
