Final Project

2018

My new final project for this year is a robot that has been presented with support from the Fab Labs Kids network.

Motor disability is an aspect that affects both physically and mentally the kid, so it was proposed to make a robot that allows improving their performance by doing it in a more fun way where the child can interact. The robot known as Firulais participates in the therapy of children with gross motor disability when trying to escape and that the child can catch it.

Who is firulais?

Firulais, is a tool to stimulate movement in children with disabilities, in order to improve coordination and balance skills through play.

Described what it will do and who will use it

The operation of Firulais is based on creating a stimulus, to try to catch it while it flees, it is an automaton robot, which aims to be a complement for the therapy of children with motor disabilities.

For this it consists of two proximity sensors that detect any obstacle, the sensors are located strategically in the front and back.
The motors must have a reasonable speed so that it is not so easy for the child to catch it and at the same time to have torque when moving the whole structure.

In the upper part of the robot, a hat with a neodymium magnet is available, this will act as a magnetic switch, when the robot is turned on, it will not execute any action until the hat is placed on it. Once incorporated, the game starts, it ends when the child manages to remove the hat. In order for the magnetic switch to work, a Hall effect sensor was introduced, which is activated by the hat magnet.



Stimulation is a factor which gives a different nuance to the development of each child, "specific stimuli can induce greater development in different areas".

NOTE: This project is developed in order to improve it so that it can be replicated in the different laboratories that work with the fabkids network.

Time Line

In the timeline of the development of the project, each of the processes established for the fulfillment of the project is detailed step by step. Firulais is developed with the main tools of digital manufacturing, Computer aid design design, Electronic production, 3D printing, Embedded programming, Molding casting and composites, Input, Output, Mechanical design.



CONCLUSIONS

It is the constant work of trying to help those who need it most and to contribute with the best effort and intention that is born firulais.

A project that takes several years in conception which could not have been developed without the support of the digital fabrication and the Fab Labs.

I think that this project had an impact greater than what had been intended, I like that I could not even imagine that this project calls so much attention to children as adults and everyone is very interested in learning about Firulais and to see how the project grows every day more.

I work in a traditional ceramic workshop and my finally project is a ceramic 3D printing with recycle ceramic materials I use two type of ceramic dust and water with natural binder, Whit to join the different ceramic dust.
I make a different process to make a prototype faster on ceramic with the precision of a CNC machine.
I explore different options for take a new system of 3D printing in ceramic whit an concept in a machine in which the size of printing is not a problem very important.


Plan and sketch a potential semester project and add in website.
