- design a machine that includes mechanism+actuation+automation.
- build the mechanical parts and operate it manually.
- document the group project and your individual contribution.
My part of the group project Handy McHandface was to 3d print the hand. A design was found on Thingiverse, and it was decided that using woodfill filament would look good. I started printing this on the Ultimaker, but a few layers in, it became apparent that the printer had trouble extruding the filament through the 0.4mm nozzle size.
A fine start.
Blobs appearing.
Infill is not really happening.
Decided to abort.
Printer struggled to extrude.
Fresh print started in white PLA
This would have needed supports, but that would have taken an excessive amount of time to print.
Printing palm piece on Replicator 2. Trying to control warping with hot glue.
PLA material warps strongly.
Model still turned out good.
Lightly sanded tape surface, no evidence of warping.
Fingertips printed, these were for a different iteration of the hand and did not fit.
Those are the proper ones.
I cut out Jon Thor's design on the Epilog.
I put together a website for the group project.
