Project Development
Lecture & Recitaton of a Week:
Lecture on 6th of June, 2018: Project Development by Neil Gershenfeld
No Recitation
Tasks for a Week
- individual assignment: Complete your final project, tracking your progress:
What is the deadline? How much time do I have left?
My final project presentation is on 13th of June, 2018, so the deadline to complete the final project is 12th of June, 2018. After the lecture of this week I have only 6 days to complete my final project
What tasks have been completed, and what tasks remain?
Completed Tasks
- Main mechanical structure
- Tape support for joints of main structure
- Set of 3 RGB LEDs to fit in mian structure
- Mian circuit 328p board
- supporting Wifi circuitry ESP-12E board
- Making Application
- Uploading Program of application in both boards
- Wiring of whole project including networking between 328p and esp-12E boards
Incomplete Tasks
- Laser cutted Doors for shelves
- Fixing Doors with hinges on shelves
- Making of 3D printed box for circuitry
What has worked? what hasn't?
The electronic part is working as per my expectations, the web server responds and work perfectly. The only thing which is not perfect is mechanical design, it is not perfectly press-fitted but with some tape support it is all good to demonstrate.
What questions need to be resolved?
- How to fix the hinges with acrylic doors.
- I need 12 doors for my project and need to utilize less acrylic sheets for laser cutting, I have to design some of the doors to be in 2 parts and then somehow join them to utilize whole 1x2ft acrylic sheet.
- where to place circuitry along with 3D printed box in final project
- How to cut the material from both sides in shopbot (it makes the press fit more good).
How will I complete the remaining tasks in time?
The project is almost completed, it is functional as well, now need to make it look like more as product, for this there are some of the work is remaining which I mentioned below:to week12 specific
- The file for laser cutting is ready to cut. It takes max half hour to complete.
- Need 1.5 hour to assemble doors on shelves
- Designing 3D box half hour.
- 3D printed will be done in max 2 hours till then other work will be completed
- Final project video remaining, it will be done after completing project maybe need an hour
- Final project slide remaining, it also need 1 hour if working with full creativity
What have you learned?
As electronic engineer there are many challenging part to be faced while working on this project. It just not pushes my abilities to next level but also help me to learn in other fields as well. I mentioned them below:
- PCB Designing, Milling and Soldering
- 2D 3D Designing
- 3D Printing
- Working on CNC machines big like shopbot, laser cut.
- Vinyl Cutting
- Press-Fit Techniques
- Manual Drilling
- Arduino Programming on differnet boards
- Networking
- Making application and Interfacing it with circuits
